According to Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), human beings use two main emotion-regulation strategies. The first one is the “resistant” strategy, where anxiety is primarily experienced through tension in the muscles, associated with defensive behaviors such as emotional detachment, rumination, or intellectualization. The second one is the “fragile” strategy, where anxiety overwhelms the individual’s capacity to cope, causing symptoms like dizziness, confusion, or dissociation. The COPEDS questionnaire aims to help identify which of these two patterns might be more prominent for you, but should not be considered a definitive diagnostic instrument. Your responses provide a general indication of your anxiety pattern and may not fully capture the complexity of your individual emotional experience.
